How to get “just like new” church pews without spending a fortune

New church pews can be quite an expense, but worn out and uncomfortable church pews can really affect the look and feel of your church. Since your congregation will spend much of their church times in a pew, it is important that you have comfortable pews for them to sit on. If your church pews are looking worn out, scratched or are lumpy and uncomfortable, you have a decision to make: do you buy new church pews or do you make improvements to the old pews. Both have their advantages.

Solid Wood Pews

Solid wood pews are easy to refurbish and it does not take much to get them looking like new. Many solid wood pews can get a dull or waxy finish to them, which is, essentially, a build-up of old layers of stain, grease, dust and debris. Stripping the wood and re-varnishing can completely transform the look of solid wood pews and make them fresh, clean and shining like new. A note of advice: it is highly advisable to consult with a professional church restoration company before attempting to re-do your church pews. Improperly stripping your wooden church pews can cause serious damage.

This type of renovation and refurbishing is best left to a professional church restoration company. They will have the skills, the tools and the expertise to assess your wooden church pews and make the best decision on how to treat and refinish your church pews. In addition, a professional church restoration company can help remove scratches and scuffs, even deep scratches, from solid wood church pews.

Renewing Church Pew Upholstery

One of the easiest ways to liven up a church pew is with new pew upholstery. If your upholstery is merely stained or dusty, a professional cleaning can really make a difference. Most carpet cleaning companies also do upholstery cleaning. Just be sure that they can handle delicate fabrics and have experience with church pews.

Old and misshapen, stained and ripped upholstery can hide the beauty of a church pew – and it takes minimal time and effort to re-do church pews in brand new upholstery. This is not a DIY project, however. It also might be too much of a job for a standard upholstery company. A professional church renovation company works with skilled experts who have decades of experience specific to church pews and can create a completely new look for your old and outdated pews. When you consult with a professional church restoration company, they’ll be able to help you make the most of your current church pews – or assist you in making a decision on whether or not the pews are salvageable.

New Church Pews and Pew Upholstery Changes Sutton, MA Church

Pastor Rev. Michael DiGeronimo, St. Mark's Catholic Church in Sutton MA, called Egan's Church Furnishings to review options for church pew repairs.

The original colonial style church pews were 30 years old and needed restoration, the pew seat and back were delaminating.  15 years ago St. Mark's purchased new church pews for the side isles made out of  particleboard construction which didn't match the center isle pews.  These 15 year old church pews were also falling apart.
Unfortunately, veneer pews cannot be refinished, however, Egan’s Church Furnishings offered to upholster the seats and backs to cover the problems and save the parish the cost of new church pews.  Unfortunately, the side isle church pews needed to be replaced
Working with Ratigan-Schottler Church Pew Manufacturer, Egan's prepared a new pew seating design and estimate to replace all the pews with new solid quality wood church pews.  Jim Egan worked closely with the local flooring contractor and the parish to have all new colonial style pews delivered and installed the last week of August, 2012.
Father Mike said the entire parish is very happy with the new church pews by from Egan Church Furnishings and Restorations. He chose Egan’s because he knew we would be on site and he wouldn't have any problems.
Egan's also upholstered the sanctuary seating to match the new church pews. For more information or a quote on new church pews or pew upholstery, contact Egan’s Church Furnishings.
