Open Your Church Doors Wide Once Again!

22 Mar 2013

Church-Doors-St.-Lazarus-East-BostonHow can we open our church doors to the faithful to pray and secure the church’s Sacred Appointments?

The pastor at St. Joseph St. Lazarus asked Egan’s Church Furnishings and Restorations research this question and come up with a solution. Egan’s team of craftsmen were in the middle of restoring St. Joseph St Lazarus Church to its previous majestic artistic beauty when the pastor asked for a solution to this question.  This is a question many churches have faced since the late 1960’s.

After several meetings and numerous design ideas we came up with a reasonable workable solution:  Design and install new interior doors with clear safety glass that can be locked when the church is not in use.  This will permit the exterior door to be open with the clear glass doors on the interior to be locked when needed in order to secure the church’s Sacred Appointments during the day.

Our new interior church doors are designed so when services are beginning the all clear glass doors will swing in and will stay open as the congregation enters for services.  When services are ending the clear glass doors will swing out with hardware to hold the door open when the congregation is exiting.

Egan’s newly installed clear glass interior church doors are also designed with locks, this permits the exterior wood door to the church to be open once again during the day.  The faithful will now once again be able to say prayers with the feeling they are in the church and viewing the Tabernacle or Monstrance in the Sanctuary.

This is the experience Egan’s brings to every church restoration project; craftsmen that have real world experience and come up with solutions unmatched in the industry.

St. Joseph St. Lazarus was completely restored by Egan’s with no interruption to weekend services or loss of collection!

Every church wants to be welcoming, keep their parishioners happy and attract new parishioners. However, often churches suffer from tight budgets which lead to tightening the belt in one area in order to address another.

Churches and places of worship are hard to maintain. Budgets are tight and mass schedules must continue. Collections cannot stop as a result of church renovations. Churches are expensive, often historic, and there for public use, make managing those budgets even more difficult.

Restoration of Historic Church Paintings Brings New Life to Congregation

Egan’s Church Furnishings and Restorations has been working on the restoration of the historic St. Lazarus Church in East Boston, MA (now St. Joseph/St Lazarus Church).

Egan's artist restored the plaster and the decorative church painting which surrounds the large, antique canvas paintings in the sanctuary.  Additionally, we carefully evaluated the canvas paintings of the Crucifixion scene for stability of the frame, canvas and painting.  The paintings, which are over 80 years old, had never been cleaned or restored.

As a result of age, the canvas paintings were dark from soot and grime accumulated over those 80 years, the beautifully painted facial features were barely visible to the congregation.  Egan's art restoration experts carefully cleaned every millimeter of the frame and each painting, bringing the details of the original paintings back to life.

Throughout the church restoration process, so weekend service could continue without interruption, Egan’s artists remove scaffolding and clean the entire church. This way weekend services could be held without interruption and in comfort.

As the congregation watches the transformation of their church and the professional restoration process progress each week, donations and collections have increased from parishioners as new life is brought back into their congregation.

The next phase in the restoration project will be the repair and replacement of the sanctuary floor.  Egan's Church Furnishings and Restorations will be removing old carpet and replacing it with a new marble tile floor in the sanctuary.
