Restoration of Historic Church Paintings Brings New Life to Congregation

Egan’s Church Furnishings and Restorations has been working on the restoration of the historic St. Lazarus Church in East Boston, MA (now St. Joseph/St Lazarus Church).

Egan's artist restored the plaster and the decorative church painting which surrounds the large, antique canvas paintings in the sanctuary.  Additionally, we carefully evaluated the canvas paintings of the Crucifixion scene for stability of the frame, canvas and painting.  The paintings, which are over 80 years old, had never been cleaned or restored.

As a result of age, the canvas paintings were dark from soot and grime accumulated over those 80 years, the beautifully painted facial features were barely visible to the congregation.  Egan's art restoration experts carefully cleaned every millimeter of the frame and each painting, bringing the details of the original paintings back to life.

Throughout the church restoration process, so weekend service could continue without interruption, Egan’s artists remove scaffolding and clean the entire church. This way weekend services could be held without interruption and in comfort.

As the congregation watches the transformation of their church and the professional restoration process progress each week, donations and collections have increased from parishioners as new life is brought back into their congregation.

The next phase in the restoration project will be the repair and replacement of the sanctuary floor.  Egan's Church Furnishings and Restorations will be removing old carpet and replacing it with a new marble tile floor in the sanctuary.

Having suffered extensive water damage over the last several years, St. Joseph & St. Lazarus Church in East Boston contacted Egan’s Church Furnishings and Restoration for help with repairs to this historic church.

The church suffered extensive damage to the plaster, decorative moldings and stencil designs.

After the roof was repaired the parish contacted us to evaluate the damage and complete the interior restoration.
Our craftsmen are the finest artisans in the church repair and restoration industry. Together with the church priests, Egan’s arranged for the church painting restorations to be completed in section, thus permitting the parish to hold their services uninterrupted every weekend.

Because they suffered no interruption to their Mass schedule, St. Joseph & St. Lazarus church will not have to endure any loss of collections and the parishioners are able to watch weekly as their church comes back to life, comes back to being the beautiful church they remembered as children.

Each week as we remove scaffolding in the completed sections we watch as the regular and long time parishioners become more enthused. As each section of the church painting is completed, St. Joseph & St. Lazarus Church parish donations have increased along with that enthusiasm.

Egan’s Church Furnishings and Restorations takes pride in restoring historic paintings, moldings and stencil designs, as well as in restoring the enthusiasm parishioners have for these historic churches. Attract New Parishioners Through Church Painting and Renovations

Every parish, whether in Boston, Providence, Hartford or New York, wants to attract and keep new parishioners. Your church makes that first impression for you. Churches and worship sites are hard to maintain. Budgets are tight and mass schedules continue. But like all buildings churches and places of worship get run down over time.

When the interior of your church needs a makeover, it is of the utmost importance to choose a church contractor you can trust. Church Construction requires contractors well learned in the art of historic restorations, and contractors who are in the church business.

As a church renovations company with vast history and continued experience as a wholesale church supplies store, Egan’s Church Furnishings and Restorations knows churches.

For one happy parish, our goal was to “brighten and enhance” the interior of the church. To complete the project we painted the ceilings and walls, installed new carpet throughout the nave and repaired the cushions on the church pews.

We bring a full team of experienced church artists and crafts people as well as on-site supervision to every project to ensure all work is done correctly and in a timely manner. We also promise that there will be no interruption to your mass schedule throughout the church painting process. Contact us for a quote on your church renovation project.
